Obituary

Doris Smith, born March 10, 1948 in Jacksonville Florida,  passed away after a long bout with cancer.  Doris was a dedicated Gator fan who followed Gator football religiously. She loved her grandchildren dearly and cherished every moment she had with them. She lived life to its fullest and was determined to live life on her terms and was of the Protestant faith. In the earlier years, Doris drove school busses when she wasn't helping her father on his shrimp boat. More recently she drove for the city of Gainesville until health issues caused her to retire when she took a position as a crossing guard. When her sons were younger Doris coached cheerleading while her husband Raymond coached youth football for the Pinecrest Pilots. The cheer squad was quite accomplished as it won state consecutive years. The football team "not so much".  Many fond memories of going to practice and preparing for game day. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She recently made a trip to the Smoky Mountains which was her favorite vacation.

She is survived by her three sons, Nicholas Edward Smith, Terry Michael Smith and Mark Christopher Smith;  daughter in law Rhonda Smith; her dearest sister Ann and brother-in-law Jake Etherage; and brother Walter and sister-in-law Shorty Sullivan; grandchildren, Ashley, Zachary and Madeline who knew her as Granny; and several nieces and nephews.
