Obituary

Doris Granger Butler, 98, of Lake City, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 29, 2022. She was born on January 9, 1924 in Shamrock, Dixie County, Florida. She was the eldest of five children to Riley Gordon Granger and Merle Van Sickel Granger. She grew up in Branford and she was baptized in the Suwannee River.  Her family later moved to Kissimmee before relocating in Lake City.  Doris graduated from Montverde Academy in Central Florida.  She married Arthur Chauncy Butler of Fertile, Minnesota on November 24, 1942. Doris and Art were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City. She lived a life devoted to her husband and family. She was a talented dressmaker, furniture restorer, and hostess. When she wasn't with her family, she was reading a book or playing bridge with friends.

In addition to her husband of 76 years, she was preceded in death by her four siblings, Dura Glenn Granger Hoggard-Autrey, Marjorie Ann Granger, Patsy Ruth Granger Bullard, and Riley Gordon Granger, Jr.; and her nephew, Riley Gordon Hoggard.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Butler Brown (Thomas), and her son, Arthur Chauncy "Art" Butler, Jr. (Linda); four grandchildren, Angela Marie King, Alison King Eubank (Shane), Sarah Butler O'Rourke (Michael), and Rachel Butler Ponte (Thomas); and three great-grandchildren, Riley Ann Eubank, Darren James Eubank, and Asher Theodore O'Rourke. She is also survived by her two nephews, William Alden Hoggard, III (Patty) and Timothy Griffin Hoggard (Martha), and a sister-in-law Marian Mae Butler Seelig.  Her special caregivers also survive, Florine Shonk and Jeryl McCloud.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Advent Christian Church with Pastor Fred Gaylard officiating.
