Obituary

Donald F. Pellicer of Lake City, Florida, passed away February 4, 2018,  just one day before his 90th Birthday, at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City. Don was born February 5, 1928 in St Augustine, Florida to Goodson Xavier and Hilda Gerster Pellicer.

Don graduated from St. Joseph's Academy, class of 1946. After high school, he served in the US Army before beginning college at Georgetown University. He transferred to the University of Florida, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Business Administration. Following a short employment with the National Park Service, he joined the Prudential Insurance Company in their Jacksonville Regional Home Office in 1952. He retired in 1985 after 32 years. Following his retirement the family moved to Western North Carolina. In 1995, he and his wife Shirley moved to Lake City, Florida.

During his years of retirement he enjoyed playing golf, bowling, coaching baseball, and being a Cub Scout leader. He had a lifetime interest of history and genealogy.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a son Kevin, and daughter Cynthia Pellicer McEver. Surviving him are his wife of 46 years, Shirley Highsmith Pellicer; sons Gregory Pellicer, Stephen Pellicer and his wife Maria, Matt Pellicer; Mark Doolittle and his wife Robin, Craig Doolittle and his wife Laura. Daughters-Michele Bennett and her husband Bill, Jacqueline Mack, and Karyn Congressi and her husband John. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.  Surviving siblings are his brother Richard Pellicer and his wife Janice; sister Nancy Lavelle and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be conducted on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Epiphany Catholic Church with Father Rob Trujillo officiating.  Interment services with military honors will follow at 3:00 PM at the San Lorenzo Cemetery in St. Augustine, Florida, with Father Michael Pendergraft officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine, Florida at www.ssjfl.org.
