Donald Dean Carter, 75, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025 at the Malcolm Randall Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, after a brief illness. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 14, 1950 to the late Ralph and Vera England Carter. He has made the Lake City area his home for the last twenty plus years, moving here from the Polk County area. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and worked for a number of years in Management. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, feeding the birds and playing golf. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 31 ½ years, Frances Arlene Lee Carter; and his brothers, Gary Carter and Ray Carter.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Hunter of Lake City; daughters, Tammy Hunter , Kristina Wethington (Jeffrey) and Wendy Rennie (Berry) all of Lake City, and Karen Wilson of Illinois; two brothers, Ken Carter (Robyn) of Orlando and Ron Carter (Donna) of Missouri, and his sister, Pat Daughtery of Jacksonville. Five grandchildren, Favian Hunter (Beth), Stephanie Barley (Hoot) and Katie Padgett (Brandon) all of Lake City and Michael & Colin Rennie both of Jacksonville; along with numerous great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service for Mr. Carter will be conducted on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Wethington officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the St. Jude's Hospital for Children.
