Obituary

Don Wayne Musselwhite, 80 of Lake City, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 after a brief illness.  He was born in Jasper, Florida on March 28, 1944 to the late Chandler and Ruby Mathis Mobley.  His father passed away when Don was young and he was blessed to have Herman Mobley, as his stepfather, to step into his life.  Don served his country in the United States Army.  He was stationed in Germany for 2 years.  Don moved from Valdosta, Georgia and worked for a while at Occidental and also worked for Aero Corp. for 31 years.  He then worked for Higher Source Aviation in Flat Rock, North Carolina for almost a year.

Don was of the Baptist faith.  After he retired, he enjoyed going to flea markets and started selling his collection of movies.  Don enjoyed going to Disney World every summer, going to the beach, having picnics and he adored his children and grandchildren, taking them to FUN places.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son, Patrick Musselwhite; his sister, Barbara (Roy) Yarbrough; his two brothers, Van Musselwhite and Lavon Musselwhite.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marilene Musselwhite; his loving daughter, Renee Blanton Cruse and his son in law Jeff Cruse of High Springs, Florida; his three grand-children, Kenny Musselwhite of Ostrander, Ohio, Jordan Musselwhite of Walkertown, North Carolina and Alexis Cruse of High Springs, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Emery and Myles Musselwhite of Ostrander, Ohio; two step-granddaughters, Ashley (Abhay) Khurana of Alachua, Florida and Victoria TenBroeck (Ryan) of Newberry, Florida.  Don has seven step great-grandhcildren, Sundari, Dhira, Kishori, Nayanna, Ghanashyam all of Alachua, Florida and Mary Ann and Elijah of Newberry, Florida; two special sisters-in-law, Maudette (Sidney) Strickland of Lake City and Terrie Williams of St. Petersburg, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.  Don will be missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service honoring his life will be conducted on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel.  Military honors will be rendered following the service.  A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
