Clarence Ewell Brown, Jr., 73, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, September 18, 2011, at Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, Florida. Clarence was surrounded by his family and his pastor.
Clarence was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on October 27, 1937, to Clarence Ewell Brown and Rachel Hackney Brown. He grew up in Lake City, Florida, graduating from Columbia High School with the Class of 1955. He graduated from University of Georgia with a BA in Business in 1960. Clarence was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was involved in insurance including health products for a number of years. In recent years, he sold, serviced and worked with computers and had many dedicated customers.
Clarence was raised in and is a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake City, Florida, where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He has also been active in the Lake City Rotary Club where he has been a member for over forty years. He was an avid supporter of the Columbia High Tigers and maintained a very active membership in the Lake City Quarterback Club of which he was a past president.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 9 years, Carole Bracy Brown, his daughters Jennifer Brown Rosado (Carlos) and Rebecca Brown Cade (Joe), his son, Clarence Ewell Brown III, his grandchildren, Gus Panagopolous, Gabe Gonzalez, Grace Morgan Gonzalez, Carlee Patricia Rosado, and Rachel Grace Brown, and his brother, Thomas Walter Brown (Ann), all of Lake City, Florida. He is also survived by his aunt Martha Jane Brown Rutland (Rev. R. E.) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and his aunt Tommy Lou Hackney, of Lake City. He is also survived by seven stepchildren; William Huntington Abney III, George Blay Abney, Cathy Sawyer, Kelly Crowley, John Bracy, Christy Handi, and Stephen Bracy, as well as fifteen step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephew, Tom W. Brown, Jr., and his niece, Rev. Suzanne Brown Zampella. He is predeceased by his parents.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening, September 21, 2011 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, Lake City, Florida, with the Rev. Dr. Roy A. Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 469, Lake City.
