Obituary

Mr. Charles Edward "Chuck" Crews, 52, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Shands Hospital in Gainesville following a sudden illness. A native and lifelong resident of Lake City, he attended local schools here in Columbia County and graduated from Columbia High School in 1991. Chuck attended Florida State University and was employed by the Florida Department of Transportation for the majority of his working career. Chuck enjoyed activities with close friends. He was an avid gamer, loved watching his beloved Jaguars play football and the Florida Gators, horror flicks, and fishing. Chuck was passionate about music and was an accomplished bassist playing with many bands including, Nefarion, and Rojo Diablo. Chuck was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Tommie Markham, his paternal grandmother, Pearl Crews, and his dear friend, James Arrington.

Chuck is survived by his love and partner in life, Kristal Kight-Fitz and her son Pearce Fitz (Stephanie); his beloved mother, Paula Markham Crews; his "Nanny" Carolyn Markham; sisters, Andrea Gainey (Clay), and Charlene Greer; his father, Charles Crews, Sr. (Brenda); nieces and nephews, Spencer Gainey, Kade Gainey, Trevor Greer (Hannah), Alexis Greer, Jessah Britt, Kyler Britt, Kelbie Ronsonet (Dallas), and Kaylin Ronsonet (Cristian); aunts and uncles, Tommie Sue and Wade Lee, Gayle and Ozzie Arnold; cousins, Brandon Arnold (Shannon), Shawn Arnold (Ashley), Wayne and Lindsey Laxton; close extended family, Henrietta Kirkland, Kelli Ronsonet (Norbie), Sarah Britt (Matt), Aimee Williams (Brent), and Justin Fulford (Gene); numerous close friends, Matthew Britt, Ollie Edwards, Jesse Giebeig, Jason Todd, Gabe Karon, Joey King, Kris Robinson, Keith Hollifield, Dave Raymond and many others.

Memorial services for Chuck will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake City Humane Society, 1392 Shelter Gln., Lake City, FL 32055.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S.
