Carrie Elizabeth Barton, 96, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 following an extended illness.

Born October 4, 1920 in Phoenix City, Alabama, to the late Alonzo Dunlap Wood and Gertrude Royal. She moved to Lake City in 1960 and was the manager at House of Bargains here in Lake City and was Woman of the Year three times. She was a member at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother "Nanny", great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years; Jack Barton, brothers; W.O. Wood, Joe Wood, sisters; Alice Dedge, Louise Brinker, Ernestine Reader, and Shirley Ledbetter, grandchild; John Barton, and Peggy Barton, great grandchildren; Emily Dodson, and Taylor Norris.

Survivors include her sons; Fred Barton (Joanie) of Cheifland, Fl., Charles Barton (Sandra) of Lake Butler, Fl., daughter; Barbara Matthews of Lake City, Fl., sister; Virginia Sanderson of Albany, Ga., grandchildren; Vickie (Gary) Mixson, Brian (Melissa) Barton, Richard Nelson (Paul), Becky (Gator) Roberts, Melissa (Devin) Lee, Shelia Matthews, Greg (Linda) Barton, Jeffrey (Lenette) Barton, Leah (Jerry) Tew, Mike Matthews, David Matthews, Robert Matthews, 12 great grandchildren , 7 great great grandchildren , and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barton will be conducted at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Mt. Caramel Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Cason officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Caramel Cemetery. Visitation with the family and friends will be 6:00pm-8:00pm Monday, October 2, 2017 at the funeral home.
