Carolyn Young Griffis, 79, of Lake City, passed away at the HCA-North Florida Hospital in Gainesville on Saturday, March 25, 2023. She was born in Union County on June 23, 1943 and has lived all of her life in the Union County area until she moved to Lake City a little over 3 years ago. She worked as a Correctional Officer for the Florida Department of Corrections for a little over 15 years before retiring. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the slot machines. She is preceded in death by her first husband, J.D. Griffis and her 2nd husband, Chuck Roberts; and her sister, Lucille Norman.

She is survived by her two sons, Greg Griffis (Michelle) of Gainesville & Rick Griffis (Winnie) of Jacksonville. Five grandchildren, Dalton Griffis (Alisa), Haylie Lee (Allen), Edward Gregory Griffis, Casey Griffis and Chelsea Whitehead along with ten great-grandchildren also survive.

A funeral service for Mrs. Griffis will be conducted on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. in the Watertown Congregational Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Ogburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Sapp Cemetery in Raiford, FL. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service.
