May 29, 1938 – July 21, 2020
Carolyn Roberta Courson, 82 of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at the Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Robert Lee Clark and Elmira Richardson Clark. Mrs. Courson had made her home in Lake City since 1965 having moved here from Jacksonville. She was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, class of 1956, and she was also a longtime member of Southside Baptist Church in Lake City. Mrs. Courson worked with her late husband, Malcolm Courson, for many years with their business, M&C Electric, and also many years with Mr. Bob Jordon. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and taking her many trips to the mountains in October to see the leaves change. Mrs. Courson was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Malcolm Courson, in 2012 and one sister, Sharon.
Survivors include her two daughters, Vanessa Lawton and Felecity Houghton, both of Lake City; one sister, Elaine Shehorn (Keith), Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Samantha Courson, Josh Lawton, J.R. Lawton, Jon Lawton, Andrew Lawton, Michael Lawton, Ashley Brown and Taylor Law, all of Lake City; and two great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Brown and Emily Brown, Lake City.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Falling Creek Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Herman Hampton, officiating. Interment will follow. Friends and family attending the service are asked to follow CDC social distancing guidelines.
