Carol Sue Wills, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, following an illness. She departed this world surrounded by the love of her family and was guided home by the angels of the loved ones who waited for her at the heavenly gates.
Born on New Year’s Day in 1940 in Warren County, Indiana, Carol was a 1958 high school graduate. As a devoted homemaker, she was the cornerstone of her family. Carol found great beauty in nature and spent many hours watching the hummingbirds. In her younger years, she was known for her spirit and love for getting out to "boogey" on the dance floor. She was a master in the kitchen, known for her cooking and canning, and in more recent years, she spent many quiet hours finding focus and relaxation through coloring by number on her phone. Her family will fondly remember her morning ritual of a Pepsi and blueberry muffins, and her absolute requirement for a full ice tray—because Carol with no ice was a force to be reckoned with. But above all, her greatest passion was always her family.
Carol was the beloved wife of the late John Henry Wills, a U.S. Veteran, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John (d. 2018); her son, Danny J. Wills (d. 2007); her granddaughter, Stacey Wills (d. 2009); and her son-in-law, Michael Johnson (d. 2024).
Her legacy is carried on by her surviving children: Sherri Bennett (Marcia LeMar) of Rockford, IL; Cindy Lou Johnson of Lake City, FL; and Terri Dubose (Starsky) of Milton, FL; as well as her daughter-in-law, Debbie Wills of Indianapolis, IN.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Troy C. Craig (Michelle), Casey Craig (Lottie), Anne Powers (Ken), Scott Behrenwald, Angie Wills (Ryan Graham), Christopher Wills (Brianna) Chad Snyder (Jasmine), and Cassi Hiers (Joshua). She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren who were the light of her later years.
In accordance with Carol’s wishes, she has been cremated and no formal service will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3596 S. US HWY 441, Lake City, FL, 32025, 386-752-1954. Please leave words of comfort for the family at www.gatewayforestlawn.com.
