Obituary

Mrs. Carol June Thomas Brethour, age 86, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society of Hays, Kansas. She was born August 31, 1929, in Lake City, Florida to the late Milo and Knox (Barris) Thomas and was also preceded in death by her husband, John R. Brethour Sr., brother Milo Thomas and brother James (Bones) Thomas.

Survivors include one son, John R. Brethour Jr. , his fiancée Jean Leechan, and one grandson, John R. Brethour. Also surviving is a niece, Deborah Thomas Sickmon and a nephew, Scott Milo Thomas (Gina).

In addition to graduating from Columbia High School, Carol June graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelors degree in Secretarial Science and the University of Florida with a Master's degree in Education. She taught English, Shorthand, Typing and Journalism at Columbia High School.

Carol June moved to Hays,Kansas, in the early 1960s and taught Business and Beginning Accounting at Fort Hays State College.  While living in Hays, she met the love of her life, John R. Brethour. They were married on August 16, 1964, in Lake City.

Carol June was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hays,Kansas. She was a world traveler, avid reader, and a wonderful bridge player. She was also an active member of PEO ( Philanthropic Educational Organization).

Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5-7:00 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders at PO Box 5023, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5023.
