Brenda E. Barton, age 74, of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the HCA Florida – Lake City Hospital in Lake City after a brief illness. She was born in Lake City on July 9, 1948 to the late William McCormick Barton and Fannie Lee Green Barton. She was a 1966 graduate of Columbia High School and she worked for JCPenny's from 1966-1998. Brenda was a strong, Godly woman, who loved her Lord and Savior. In her spare time, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, was an avid reader; and loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Craig Barton and her nephew, Nicholas Carter.

She is survived by her sister, Elsie M. Carter (Bill) of Lake City; and her brothers, John Barton (Cecile) of Miami. Ten nieces & nephews, nine great nieces & nephews, and one great-great niece also survive.

A memorial service for Ms. Barton will be conducted on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at 3:00 P.M.  in the First Christian Church with Pastor Doug Allen officiating. A private inurnment will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME.
