Obituary

Billy Eugene Friar, 82, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the University of Florida Shand's Hospital in Gainesville after a long illness. He was born in Adel, Georgia on July 30, 1943 to the late John Birney Friar and Julia Ann Adams Friar. He has made the Lake City area his home most of his life and served in the National Guard for a little over seven years. He worked for the State of Florida for over 28 years as a Tax Specialist and was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman, and woodworking. He loved his family and loved being with them. He was the best Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He is preceded in death by his son, Bryan Patrick Friar and two brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 54 years, Anna Friar of Lake City; daughter, Katie Friar Brooker (Greg) of Gainesville; brother, Donald Friar (Marsha) of Palatka and sister, Barbara Richards of Eustis. Seven grandchildren, Brock Friar (Jessie), Bryce Friar (Chen), Danica Friar, Billy Jacob Friar (Julia), Camden Harrison, Lace Smith and Zane Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Patrick Friar and Ellie Jean Friar also survive.

Per Mr. Friar's wishes, he will be cremated, and no services will be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations please be considered to the National Kidney Foundation. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME.
