Betty Mae Smith, 77 of Branford, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the HCA Lake City Hospital.  She was born at home in Bell, Florida, the second oldest of six children to the late Leonard "Buck" and Dolly Mae Herrin Conner.  Ms Smith was a lifelong resident of Branford and was a graduate of Bell High School class of 1964.  She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed doing family research on Ancestry, fishing, hunting and spending time with her family.  Ms Smith was preceded in death by her parents; and three siblings, Leonard Conner, Jr., James Conner and Donna Mae Johnson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Meranda J. Stephens (Matthew "Bubba" Langford), Branford and Stephanie Simpson (Mike), Bell; her companion, Sam Jacobs, Bell; two sisters, Alice Cannon (Freddie), Bell and Myrlene Hendry, High Springs; three grandchildren, Jermey Stephens, Branford, Dalton Simpson, Bell and Zach Simpson (Kelsey), Gainesville; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Spencer Stephens both of Branford; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church at 4200 County Road 340, Bell, FL 32619.  Ms Smith will be laid to rest next to her husband at Wayfair Cemetery in Bell, Florida at a later date.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center at 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055.
