Betty M. Ottinger, 90 of Fort White, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. She was born in Green Cove Springs, Florida to the late Fred and Edna Owens Chesser. Mrs. Ottinger had made her home on the farm in Fort White since 1961 following the retirement of her late husband, Charlie W. Ottinger, from the Navy. She was of the Baptist faith and a longtime member of Elim Baptist Church. Mrs. Ottinger worked as school bus driver in Columbia County for 21 years and as a farmer's wife for many years on the family farm. She enjoyed spending time at their cabin in the mountains of North Carolina, going to auctions, yard sales and the flea market. Mrs. Ottinger was always in the kitchen preparing food for her family and was known for baking her yeast rolls. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Charlie W. Ottinger.
Survivors include her son, Curtis Ottinger of Fort White; her two daughters, Valerie Bussey (Timmy) and Gina Williamson (Gary) all of Fort White; and two grandchildren, Logan Williamson and Autumn Williamson.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Ottinger will be conducted on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Brian Kline officiating. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center, 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055.
