Benny Jay Battle

Mr. Benny Jay Battle, 74, passed away at his residence on Thursday, August 6, 2026 unexpectedly. He is the son of the late John Thomas and Bessie Anderson Battle. He is preceded in death by his son, Benny Jay Battle, Jr. He had made Lake City home all of his life except for his stay in Nassau County for twenty years. He owned and operated Battle Surveying Company for fifty years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, dancing, and teaching his children and grandchildren to swim. He enjoyed most traveling to North Carolina with his wife Elizabeth.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Elizabeth Battle, Lake City, FL; one daughter, Thelma Jean Schell (Vincent Williams) Fernandina Beach, FL; two brothers, Lonnie Ray Battle, Alabama, and Donnie Battle, Kentucky; and one sister, Mary Burgess, Alabama. His grandchildren are Michelle Beckham, Alisha Crosby, Taylor Crosby, Savannah Crosby, Tyler Hendrix, Clairrissa Crews, Gabby Mireles, and David Battle. And thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Visitation with the family will be held Monday, August 10, 2026, at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
