Mr. Benjamin A. Coates, 78, of Lake City, Florida, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015. "Benny" was born in Rison, Maryland to the late Edward and Dora Louise [Murphy] Coates and had lived in Columbia County for over 30 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed walking the flea market to look for treasures, car shows, and his beloved little dog, "Buttons". He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Clarence, Edward, & Bobby and his sisters, Mary & Ruth.

Survivors include his son, Tommy Coates and daughter, Shelby "Shelly" (Bruce) Tipton both of Port Tobacco, MD; grandchildren, Sara, Kevin, & Catherine; great grandchildren, Mattie & Sophie; beloved friends, Verna & Sax ,and Val &Kelly.

Private family services will be held at a later date in Maryland.
