Barbara M. Kurtz, 83 of Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at her home. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida, the oldest of five children to the late George William Miller, Jr. and Martha Ingram Miller. Mrs. Kurtz was raised in Jacksonville and was a graduate of Englewood High School class of 1959. She had made her home in Lake City since 1963 when her late husband, Tony Martin Kurtz, Sr., was transferred here with the Florida Highway Patrol. Mrs. Kurtz worked for many years with the State Exchange Bank during the 70's and 80's and also with the family business, Duval Automotive, from 1987-1997. She was a longtime active member of Heritage Church and loved participating in church Bible studies. Recently within the last two years, Mrs. Kurtz was taking online Bible classes with Charis College. She loved traveling and had visited 49 of 50 states with her late husband in the RV. Mrs. Kurtz loved entertaining and hosting dinners at her home for family and friends. She was an amazing cook, avid quilter and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Tony Martin Kurtz, Sr.; and her brother, George William Miller, III.
Survivors include her two children, Kristine Kurtz Smith, Lake City and Tony Martin Kurtz, Jr. (Tracy), Lake City; three sisters, Nancy Pierce, Bonnie Graupp and Martha Trice (Robbie) all of Jacksonville; brother-in-law, Mark Kurtz (Leslie), Wilmore, KY; sister-in-law, Teri Carmody (Ed), Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Jonathan "Dusty" Smith (Brooke), Chiefland, Heather Lousignont (Russ), Jacksonville, Victoria Cohen (Ryan), Fleming Island, Olivia Kurtz, Cape Girardeau, MO, Caroline Jones (Phil), Lafayette, IN, Samuel Kurtz, Lake City and Alayna Kurtz, Lake City; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Heritage Church with Pastor Chris Jones officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Interment will follow on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Living Waters Ministry at https://www.livingwateradoptachild.org/ in memory of Mrs. Kurtz.
