Alvin Arnold "AL" Coats, Jr., 63, of Alabama, formerly of Lake City, passed away on Sunday evening, June 17, 2024 at the Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama, after a cardiac event. He was born In Lake City on March 10, 1961 to Lucille Vining Coats and the late Alvin Arnold Coats, Sr.. He was a 1980 Columbia High School graduate and was a United States Army Veteran as well as the National Guard. After his service, he went to fire school and began a career with Columbia County as a firefighter that lasted for over 30 years. He also worked in construction and went to work for W.W. Gay Contracting in Jacksonville for over 15 years. He then moved out to Alabama a little over a year ago. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching the Florida State Seminoles and NASCAR. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin & Josie Coats and Kie & Maggie Vining.

He is survived by his daughters, Casey Bowers (Tom) of Atlanta, GA and Brooke Coats Nettles (McKenna) of Lake City; his mother, Lucille Vining Coats of Lake City; sister, Sharon Coats of Lake City; three grandchildren, Thomas Bowers, Will Bowers and Nevaeh Coats; and his companion, Annette English of Alabama. Many extended family members and friends also survive.

A graveside funeral service for Mr. Coats will be conducted on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 11:30 A.M. in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (US HWY 441 North) , with Pastor Johnnie Kie Vining officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. prior to the graveside service at the funeral home.
