Mr. Alfred Richard Newberry, 56, of Lake City, passed away late Friday evening, August 12, 2017 in Cullman, Alabama, after a sudden illness. He was born in Greenville, South Carolina on December 1, 1960 to Omalee Kathryn Newberry and the late Russell B. Newberry. He was a Columbia High School class of 1978 graduate. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy; after serving his country, he made Lake City his home for most of his life. In his spare time, he loved to read, spend time with his family, especially the little ones; and he loved fishing.
He is survived by his daughter; Charlotte Grover of Jacksonville; his mother: Kathryn Newberry of Lake City; sisters; Iris Marie Morgan (Tim) of Wyoming, Karen Harrison (Bob) of Lake City and Evelyn Agnes Reynolds (Melvin) of Eva, Alabama. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Newberry will be conducted on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 11 A.M. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Sweat, Pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 A.M. (one hour prior to the services) at the funeral home.
