Wesley George Manthey

September 4, 1947 ~ May 18, 2018 (age 70)

Wesley George Manthey, Chief Petty Officer USN Retired, age 70, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Avalon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lake City, Florida.  A native of Glendive, Montana, Mr. Manthey retired after 23 years of honorable service and had been an active member of Lake City VFW Post #2206 and the Macclenny, Florida Moose Lodge #2412. 

 

Born to George and Evelyn Manthey in 1947, Wesley grew up hunting and fishing in Montana and was happiest outdoors on Pryor Mountain.  He was involved in FFA and he excelled at football.  After enlisting in the U.S. Navy, he served in Vietnam and was stationed in locations such as the Philippines, Guam, Italy, Mississippi, Virginia, Maryland and Florida.

 

Wesley shared his life with his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Darlene Janice (Sloan) Manthey; children, Julie Gooch (John) of Ashburn, VA, Jennifer Rylander of Jacksonville, FL and Gregory Manthey of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Roland and Jada Rylander, and Kingston Farmer of Jacksonville, FL.  Also surviving are sisters, Darlene Orndoff and Charlotte Kaufman.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Manthey.  He will be sadly missed by friends and family.

 

In Wesley’s honor, a military salute will be hosted on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 5:00 PM at the Lake City VFW at 343 SW Forest Lawn Way, Lake City, FL 32025.
