Mrs. Velma Dortch “Honey” Thomas, 88, of Lake City passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at her residence. Born in Lake City, she was the daughter of the late Herman W. and Evelyn Douglas Dortch, and was a lifelong resident of Lake City. She retired from the Columbia County School System as a bus driver. “Honey” as she was affectionately called by her family which she dearly loved enjoyed going to yard sales, going out for pizza, and just being on the go all of the time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elias “E.D.” Thomas; son, Randy Thomas; daughter, Victoria; brothers, Dan Dortch and Perry “Buddy” Dortch; sisters, Diane Donaldson, Jean Nash, and Jeanette Thrasher.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her daughter, Sadie Kay Thomas; sons, Gary Thomas (Patti), Steve Thomas (Debra), Terry “Chubby” Thomas (Karen); 11 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren (1 due in December); sister, Betty Nettles.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
