Theodor Joseph Sobota

It is with sadness that the family of Theodor Joseph Sobota announces his passing on Sunday, July 9, 2017.  Ted was 85 years old and died peacefully of natural causes at his home in O'Brien, Florida.  He was born and raised in Clifton, New Jersey, and moved his family to Hollywood, Florida in 1968.  Ted later relocated to Welland, Ontario for a number of years before returning to sunny Florida and settling in O’Brien.

Ted loved working with his hands.  As a teenager, Ted supported his family by setting pins at the local bowling alley and caring for flowers and plants at the local nursery.  Through years of experience he became a skilled gardener with a passion for plants, and he enjoyed growing bountiful flowers, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables.  He was also a skilled craftsman and enjoyed all types of construction and remodeling projects.  Ted was always ready to lend a hand, help others, and teach them his diverse skills.  He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  We will miss his gentle heart complemented by his humor and often outspoken commentary and wit.

Ted is survived by his four children: Theodore Sobota (Lorraine) of Pompton Plains, NJ, Maria Gerhart of Delray Beach, FL, Theresa Page of South Palm Beach, FL, Peter Sobota (Lisa) of Weston, FL, seven grandchildren: Angela Chalnick, Kristin Christensen, Zachary and Caitlin Sobota, Jackie Page, and Dominic and Krista Sobota, great grandchildren Grace and Emma Chalnick, step-children Pamela Taylor, Bonita Calhoun, Mark McInnis, Karen Eadie, and their families.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 in the Parish Hall Chapel at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1301 SW 136th Avenue, Davie, FL 33325, followed by a gathering in the Parish Center to share memories and celebrate his life.  Please make donations in his name to The Cancer Center of Lake City, 795 SR 47, Lake City, FL 32075.
