Thelda Evonne DeLoach Godbold, 87, of Lake City, FL, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Doctors Hospital of Augusta in Augusta, Georgia. She was born in Mayday, Georgia to the late Charlie and Inez Mobley DeLoach. Mrs. Godbold was a graduate of Columbia High School and Valedictorian of the class of 1947. She married her husband of 69 years, I.J. Godbold, on February 29, 1948, which was a leap year. Mrs. Godbold was an avid reader and student of the Bible, faithful servant of Jesus Christ and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City where she taught Sunday School, Bible studies and started the first Girl Scout and Brownies organization. She worked many years with her husband at Godbold Grocery in Lake City. She was a loving person and always willing to help those in need. Mrs. Godbold was preceded in death by her brother and only sibling, Charles DeLoach.
Survivors include her husband, Isaiah Jacob “I.J.” Godbold, Lake City; three children, Susan Godbold Parrish (Phillip), Rocky Mounty, NC, Sharon Godbold Capell (David), Martinez, GA and John Todd Godbold (Debbie), Lake City, FL; she was called grandma by nine grandchildren and spouses, as well as six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Lake City with David W. Capell, officiating, assisted by Rev. Robert Bass, pastor. Interment will follow at Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
