Sheila Leitch Obituary

Sheila Leitch age 85 passed away peacefully on Thursday

September 27, 2018. She was born December 28, 1932 in Caterham Surrey England to Ellen (Grover) and James McKechnie.

 

Many of her childhood years she spent living and witnessing WWII in England. She would share stories of living underground in shelters and coming out after the bombing stopped to find everything including her home gone.

 

As a teenager she worked for Craynage Department Store in the shoe department where her best friend introduced her to her future husband. She married George Walker Leitch in April of 1951 at the age of 18.

 

After living in England and Scotland in October of 1956, with two small children ages 3 and 5, she immigrated to the United States aboard the Queen Mary for New York. She would later become an American citizen.

 

She worked for the State of New Jersey in the welfare department. After moving to Florida, she worked for Associated Groceries as a bookkeeper for 25 years. Finally finishing her career running the music department for Circuit City for 12 years before retiring at 72.

 

Her greatest love in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many of her happiest memories were of traveling with them.  She traveled for everyone’s wedding taking her to China, Hawaii, Aruba and New York. Special memories were watching the ball drop New Year’s Eve in Time Square with her daughter, son in law, and grandson. Also traveling through Europe with her granddaughter. One of the most heartful memories was when her grandson became a sailor.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband George Leitch and son Ian Leitch. She is survived by her son Roy (Debi Starr) Leitch, Craig (Michelle) Leitch, Daughter Kimmarie (Harry) Carr, Grandson’s Roy (Heather) Leitch, Craig (Lydia) Carr, Granddaughter Ryan (Joe) Hart. Great Grandson’s Alex Leitch, Finley Hart, Great Granddaughter’s Sabrina Leitch, Hayden Hart and Kelci Carr.
