Mrs. Ruby Louise Vining Colson, 79, of Lake City, passed away on Monday morning, August 5, 2019 after an extended illness at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center. She was a lifelong resident of Lake City and the fifth of seven children to the late Kie and Maggie Allbritton Vining. Mrs. Colson was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1957. She loved cats, birds, spending time outside in her yard, looking after her livestock and fishing on the Santa Fe River. Mrs. Colson worked for many years with Columbia County Bank and she also volunteered at the Westside Community Center on Birley Rd since its inception. Mrs. Colson was preceded in death by three siblings, Juanita Vining, Kie Vining, Jr. and Ernest Vining. Her primary goal in life was to be a good wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, John Colson, Lake City; one daughter, Kelli K. Colson, Jacksonville; one sister, Lucille Coats, Lake City; two brothers, James William Vining (Jean), Tampa and David Franklin Vining, Lake City; four sisters-in-law, Geneva Vining, Ocala, Rachel Duren, Jacksonville, Opal Blackshear, Smithfield, VA and Kay Culpepper (Ed), Griffin, GA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Colson will be conducted on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Johnny Kie Vining officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 8, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
