My name is Lynn Mayfield and I began my teaching career at Fort Walton Beach High School in 1972. Mr. Janasiewicz was Social Studies Department Chair, and the most popular and gifted teacher (in my opinion) in the department. He is one of my life's heroes.
Wanting to become the best teacher I could possibly be, I began going to his class on my planning period to watch him work his magic. He was brilliant !!!!!!!!! and I asked every question I could think of. I finally told him I wanted to be a teacher just like him..........He said "no ....you want to be a teacher just like you. Find your own strengths." Then he set about helping me to do just that.
That first year he counseled and coached, encouraged and suggested. He spent lots of time with me....told me jokes...... and taught me to teach school. I had a wonderful 34 year career and was also honored as teacher of the year.......
I owe all of my success as a teacher and the satisfaction I got from my career to Mr. Janasiewicz .
My hero, my friend, my mentor...I'll hold him in my heart forever. My deepest sympathy to all who loved him........I loved him too!!!!!!!!!

To the entire Janasiewicz family, I would like to extend my deepest sympathy at the recent loss of Big Daddy. Although I remember him fondly from times we were all together at your home and enjoyed so much his charm and sense of humor...I never knew what an American hero he was until reading his obituary. I feel honored to have known him and pray that the wonderful memories you all shared will help to comfort you in the days and years to come.

Although I never met Big Daddy, I have known Bruce and his family for years. They are a perfect legacy and I'm sure he was very proud of them. I'm so sorry for your loss, hopefully memories will help you through this hard time.
