Polly “Ladybug” Hammond

Peacefully in sleep is how Polly “Ladybug” Hammond departed this world on November 7, 2018. She was born in Lake City, Florida on May 30, 1924 to JD & Maddie Griffin.

She is now dancing again with her husband of 57 years, Mr. Wiley M. Hammond who preceeded her in death February 15, 1999. She enjoyed the life of a US Navy wife and made herself known as a person who was always willing to lend a hand and a smile.

She was an active member of the Navy Veteran’s Fleet Reserve and coordinated many a Veterans Day celebration at the Gateway Memorial Cemetery and was known as a Real Red, White and Blue woman! After her retirement from General Electric she enjoyed many years of traveling by air, bus or rail.

Left behind to celebrate her in laughter and memory are her daughters: Martha Cheryl Hammond Byers, her husband Ed Byers (Melbourne, Florida) and their son James Byers, married to Delene D. Byers, (Tifton, Georgia) which includes 4 great grandsons; Justin Byers, Will Byers, Cole Byers and Matt Davis; Ladybug has lived with her daughter Kim Hammond MacLean, and her husband J Paul MacLean and entertained them at their home in Jacksonville, Florida for the past 3 1/2 years.

A small memorial will be held at Gateway Forest Lawn Funeral Home on South Highway 441 in Lake City, Florida, Monday, November 12, 2018 at 2pm. A private viewing for immediate family and close friends is from 1-2pm, followed by a memorial in the chapel and final graveside services.
