Opal Lee Carter, 83 of Lake City, peacefully went home to be with Jesus and family members awaiting, on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City. She was born in Sebring, Florida to the late James Harold Rimes and Dorothy Veda Chancey Rimes. Mrs. Carter had made her home in Lake City since 1970 having moved here from North Ft. Myers, FL. She was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lake City. Mrs. Carter enjoyed cooking and was well known for her buttermilk biscuits at Fat Boy’s Bar-B-Que on US 90 in Lake City. Preceding her in death was one son, Robert Donald Hayes; one grandson, Matt Brown; one brother, Columbus James Rimes; and one sister, Wanda Faye Parker.
Survivors include her three daughters, Brenda H. Gilliam, Lake City, Renee Brown (David), Merritt Island, FL and Mary Ellen Drawdy, Sebring, FL; three sisters, Geri Dunham, Ft Myers, Patricia Webb (Wayne), Crystal River and Kay Chapman (David), Lake Port; twelve grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren also survive.
