Kenneth Edward Witt, 84, of Lake City, passed away Sunday morning, April 29, 2018 at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City after an extended illness. He was born in Columbia County on July 16, 1933 to the late Horace and Clarice Bailey Witt. He has been a life-long resident of Lake City, was a 1951 graduate of the Mason City Wildcats School and attended the Hopeful Baptist Church. He was employed with the Division of Driver’s Licenses for 36 years until his retirement in 1992. He was also a partner in the G&K Nursery with his son. He has done his annual fish fry’s/peanut boils since the early 1960’s, which have become well known throughout Columbia County. Kenneth also served three terms on the Columbia County Commission. He enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved very much.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Louise Markham Witt of Lake City; sons; Larry (Claudia) Witt and Gary (Tracy) Witt both of Lake City; daughters; Martha Kay (Wayne) Norris and Valerie (Rocky) Ryals both also of Lake City. Grandchildren; Travis Ryals, Ashley Blanton, Jeffrey Norris, Leslie McGriff, Hailey Douglas, Shelby Stinson, Kloe Witt, Regina Witt and Dylan Witt; great-grandchildren; Ryals Blanton, Leah McGriff, Luke McGriff, Hunter Douglas, Jake Douglas, Addy Braxton, Carter Stinson and Carson Stinson, Mckinney Blanton and Jackson Witt-Harmon also survive.
Funeral services for Kenneth will be conducted on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the Hopeful Baptist Church with Pastor Zeb Cook and Steve Trucluck officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 3, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be considered to the Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Haven-Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center.
