Joseph Smith Ambros, 83 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Lake City. He was born in Hamilton, Scotland the youngest of 9 children to the late John and Marijona Smith. Mr. Ambros left his home in Hamilton, Scotland at the age of 17 and came to the United States in 1951 on the Queen Elizabeth. He served proudly in the United States Air Force. He and his family moved to Lake City in 2001 from Zehpyrhills, Florida. Mr. Ambros is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the Cannon Creek Ward in Lake City. Thru the years he served within his church in numerous callings, including Bishop in the Zephyrhills Ward, Temple Ordinance Worker, Ward Missionary and serving a mission with his late wife on the Pima Indian Reservation in Pima, Arizona. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his son, Joe Ambros and his wife Stephanie, Lake City; his step-son, Steve Veres and his wife Jacqualyn, Wayne, MI; his sister, Magdaline “Madge” Finnigan, Hamilton, Scotland; his grandchildren, Rayne Ambros and Jesse Ambros both of Lake City, and Jason Ambros (Kim), Garner, NC, Beverly, Mike, Steve Jr., Tim Sherri, Darrell and David; numerous great-grandchildren including, Ashton, Maddie, Persephone, Olivia and Wyatt; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Cannon Creek Ward with Bishop Frank Aiello, Presiding. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Union County. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church from 10-11:00 AM.
