John S. Myrick, II, 84, of Lake City, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2017 at the Surrey Place Care Center in Live Oak after an extended illness. He was born in Weatherford, Texas on August 19, 1933 to the late Dr. Thomas S. and Alvarene Bradshaw Myrick. He graduated from the University of Texas with a BS Degree in Chemistry and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity; he continued with graduate classes and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Houston University. He has made Lake City his home for the past 45 years, moving here from Aurora, North Carolina. He worked for Occidental Chemical in White Springs as Operations Manager, and later for Occidental Petroleum in Houston as Project Manager; he retired from OXY after ten years and started his own company, Myrick International which allowed him to travel all over the world. He enjoyed spending time with his family and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, golfing, swimming, coin collecting, skeet shooting, playing cards, raising beagles and bird dogs. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and many other related associations; served as President of the Lake City Little League Baseball Association, The Lake City Country Club, and was instrumental in numerous other community ventures. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law; Pauline and Pat Stelzer.

 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Billye T. Myrick; his children - Carole M. Strickland, Thomas S. Myrick (JoAnn), Edwin R. Myrick (Taren) and Jody D. Myrick; brother, James Myrick (Jane) and sister, Margaret Bordeau. Grandchildren: Don Lee (Whitney), April Murphy (Billy), D. Cody Myrick (Maryn), Austin Myrick (Anna), Sabrina Myrick, Lindsey Phelan, Sean Strickland, Kassie Myrick, Dillion Myrick and Cody J. Myrick (Sandra). Great-grandchildren: Heather Lee, Tyler Myrick-Murphy, Mackenzie Phelan, Kiarah Myrick-Smalls, Rorie Lee, Emily Murphy, Charlie Phelan, Ansley Myrick and Carter Myrick, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

Memorial services for Mr. Myrick will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the OCC SouthRidge Church fellowship hall on Ridge Street. Following the services, there will be a memorial luncheon held in the fellowship hall for all to attend.
