Mr. John Paul Jones, III, 78, of Lake City, passed away Sunday evening, April 15, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois on February 6, 1940 to the late John Paul Jones, Jr. and Marion Pecot Jones. He has made the Lake City area his home since 2003, moving here from Gainesville. He was a Christian. He graduated from Gainesville High School and the University of Florida with a Master degree in Education. He was a Lieutenant with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years. He was also the Owner/Operator of his own sales company and Advertising Director of Florida Living Magazine for 10 years. He was an avid Christian prayer warrior, and in his spare time, he enjoyed motorcycle riding, horses, dog training K-9’s for law enforcement, and was a scuba/cave diver. He loved canoeing, whitewater rafting, and traveling in their RV. He taught his children and grandchildren to ride the waves on boogie boards at the beach, and to play chip poker. He is preceded in death by three sons: Roger Raduns, John Paul Jones, IV, and Larry Jones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years; Linda Raduns Jones of Lake City; daughter; Lara Harker (James) of Camas, Washington; grandchildren: Grace, Claire and Derek Harker, Ryan Raduns, Joshua Jones, Julia , Jacob, Jenna and Jude Teter-Jones; sisters: Judy Glenn of Fort White and Dr. Letty Rayneri (Oscar) of Dahlonega, GA also survive.
Memorial services for Mr. Jones will be conducted on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from 2:00-3:00 at the funeral home.
