James Furman Larson

June 2, 1938 ~ June 17, 2018 (age 80)

James Furman Larson, affectionately known as “Swede”, age 80 of Lake City passed away peacefully on Sunday, 17 June 2018 at North Florida Regional Hospital.  Swede was born on June 2nd 1938 in Miami FL to Edwin and Alma Larson.  He was the beloved father of Catherine L. Maples, James W. Larson, Edwin B. Larson, and Pamela J. Taylor. He grew up in Miami, FL and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1956.  His military assignments included Castle Air Force Base (AFB) CA, Ramey AFB PR, Homestead AFB FL, and Minot AFB ND.  He participated in deployments to Vietnam, Thailand, and Alaska.  After retiring in 1976, he worked at Aero Corporation in Lake City FL, Powers Chevrolet, the Florida Highway Patrol, and various Sheriff’s offices in Northern Florida.  He retired from the Florida Department of Corrections, after working in the armory at the Reception and Medical Center, Lake Butler FL correctional facility.

He was a member of the Shriners and Gainesville Police Department Association of Retired Police Officers, and a supporter of the Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network.  In his spare time he loved working in his workshop, travel, watching the Gators play football, and most recently spending time with his family.  He loved and supported Law Enforcement on and off work. 

 

Swede was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George Larson, his wife Janet Larson, and nephew Buddy Wonderlick.  He is survived by his daughter Catherine L. Maples; son James W. Larson and wife Connie; son Edwin B. Larson and wife Peanutt; daughter Pamela J. Taylor and husband Dean; his former wife Harriet Larson; his sister Linda Larson; nephew Ian Larson; nieces Connie Colden, Melody Larson, and Linda Irwin; grandchildren Jamie Mansukhani and wife Randi, Bethany Delbo and husband Joe, Britney Larson, Michelle Diaz and husband Jovany; great grandchildren Hailey Mansukhani; Hope Mansukhani, Hannah Mansukhani, Kennedy Maxwell, Addison Maxwell, Lincoln Mansukhani, Jieshika Delbo, Celina Delbo, Piper Diaz, and Penelope Diaz.

 

A viewing will take place on Saturday, 23 June 2018 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home (Lake City FL), and a memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jon Kent and Steve Thompson officiating. At the conclusion of the service, U.S. Air Force service members from Moody AFB GA will render appropriate military retiree honors through a flag folding/presentation, firing party, and bugler for a retired military member. Swede will then be cremated.  Interment will take place on Monday, 25 June 2018 at 9:00 am at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road Jacksonville, FL 32218.
