Emma Phyllis Hill Duke, 86, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, at Still Waters West in Lake City. She was born on November 17, 1931 in Smithville, Mississippi to the late Allan and Agnes Hudnell Hill. Mrs. Duke was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor Degree in Vocational Home Making, Social Studies and English. She then married her husband of 60 years, Henry Wayne Duke, Sr., on December 23, 1956, and they were married until he passed on, April 23, 2017. Mrs. Duke was a teacher in Lake City with the Columbia County School Board for 36 years. She was preceded in death by her daughter; Deena Duke Brinkley, and grandson; Travis Wesley Brinkley.
Survivors include her son, Henry Wayne Duke, Jr and his wife Cynthia, Lake City; one brother, Douglas C. Hill and family, Steens, MS; one sister, Frances Ledbetter and family, Tuscaloosa, AL; and two great grandchildren, Deena and Emma Brinkley, Lake City.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Robert Bass, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, officiating. Interment will follow. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
