Elga Hunter Obituary

Mrs. Elga Hunter passed away after a brief illness on February 12, 2018.   She was born August 22, 1927 to the late Robert and Pearl Butler in Quincy, Florida.  She graduated from Quincy High School Class of 1946.  She then moved to Jacksonville and became a licensed Beautician where she worked for several years before moving to Tallahassee.  In 1949 she started working for the State of Florida in Tallahassee as a key punch operator.  On August 27, 1950 she married George W. Hunter and in August of 1955 she resigned from the State of Florida and they started a family.  They moved to Lake City in 1966 where they lived, worked and worshiped at First Baptist Church where she belongs to the Door of Hope prayer group and Charity Sunday School Class.  She loved spending time with her family, cooking and visiting the shut-in’s.

She is survived by her three sons, George Hunter (Brenda), Terry Hunter (Jill) and John Hunter, all of Lake City.  Grandchildren Ashley Summers (Greg), Kyle Hunter (Markie) and Chad Hunter of Lake City and Mallory Pruitt (Greg) of Orlando.  Great Grandchildren Logan, Adalyn and Everett Summers and Dexter Pruitt.  Brothers and sisters, Joe Butler of Quincy, FL; Bob Butler (Harriet) of Tallahassee, FL; Virgil Butler (Mary Jo) of Gretna, FL; Delia Jean Hersey of Orlando, FL.  Sister-in-Law’s Sadie Butler of Calvary, GA and Janice Butler of Quincy, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband GW, grandson Brad J. Hunter, brothers Raber Butler, Ermon Butler and HM Butler, sisters Gertrude Simon and Winona Genton.  Brothers-in-law Charlie Hersey and Harold Genton and sisters-in-law Marilee Butler, Vernon Butler and Bessie Butler.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church of Lake City with Rev. Robert Bass and nephew Rev. Joe Butler officiating the service.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with family with the family will be held 1 hour before Service time (10:00AM – 11:00AM) at the First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Lake City, 182 Justice Street, Lake City, FL 32055 and Haven Hospice, 6037 West US Highway 90, Lake City, FL  32055.
