Ann Merritt Gascon, age 73, of Lake City passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Haven Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She fought a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer, but could not overcome.

            Ann was born on February 1, 1944 in Lundale, West Virginia to Lacy and Reable (Whitt) Merritt. She was one of five daughters and four sons. Ann graduated from Man High School in Man, West Virginia at the age of 16. Ann married Tom Gascon on October 21, 1966 in Melbourne. Ann was involved in Girl Scouts and volunteered in many capacities throughout her daughters’ school years. She held various clerical positions for organizations such as the Department of Education in Washington, D. C., Brevard County Hospital (now Holmes Regional) in Melbourne, and the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her last place of employment was Hunter Printing in Lake City. Ann and Tom attended Pleasant Grove Methodist Church.

Ann is survived by her husband of 50 years, Tom Gascon of Lake City; daughter Jennifer (Bill) Conway of High Springs, daughter Susan Howard of Fort White, and daughter Elizabeth (Jack) Clemmons of Lake City; and her grandsons: Jansen Howard of Jacksonville, Andrew Howard of New York City, and Tommy Williams of Montrose, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother Tom (Eva) Merritt of Flatwoods, Kentucky, her sister Dora Sabo of Westminster, Maryland, her sister Dinah (Dennis) Childers of Palm Bay, her brother-in-law Ernie Lautzenheiser of Melbourne, her brother-in-law Bob (Linda) Gascon of St. Petersburg, and many nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her siblings Charles, Kenneth, Lois, Mary, and Johnny.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Pleasant Grove in Lake City.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Lake City Medical Center, Select Specialty Hospital in Gainesville and Haven Hospice for their tireless care of our mother during her illness.
