Alan James Reiter

Alan James Reiter, 87,  “Dad” to his children and “Poppy” to his grandchildren,  of  Lake City, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 surrounded by his family at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville.  He was born in Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York, to the late, William Herbert Reiter and Helen D. Horn Reiter.  Mr. Reiter had made his home in Lake City for the past 32 years having moved here from Penfield, New York.  He was a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force, worked at Xerox Corporation for 15 years, a Professor at RIT and the Lake City Community College, and a proud substitute teacher for the Columbia County School System until the age of 80. Mr. Reiter enjoyed boating, fishing, NASCAR, golf, woodworking and studying the weather. 

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Delores L. Reiter, Lake City; three sons, Bruce A. Reiter (Susan), Marengo, IL, Gary L. Reiter, Springboro, OH and Terry L. Reiter (Julie), Lake City; one brother, William H. Reiter, Victor, NY; one sister, Janet Wegemann, Victor, NY; five grandchildren, Matthew Reiter (Jonelle), Stephen Reiter (Samantha), Kiersten Dicks (Jason), Eric Reiter and Austin Reiter (Lindsey); and four great-grandchildren, Angelina, Maximus, Kenneth Otto and Reiter Lee.

Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 4:00 PM at the St. James Episcopal Church with The Reverend Doug Hodsdon officiating.  Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service from 3-4:00 PM at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St. James Episcopal Church Capital Campaign at 2423 SW Bascom Norris Dr., Lake City, FL 32025.
