Laura Ruth (Norris) Crapps

Laura Ruth Norris Crapps, 69, of Lake City, Florida, passed away on March 21, 2024, at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, following a brief illness.

She is survived by her loving husband Peat Crapps, and sister, Mary Anne Norris, of Alachua, Florida. She was born in Lake City on February 10, 1955, to the late William Bascom Norris and Mary Gwendolyn Giebeig Norris and was the granddaughter of the late Paul S. Sr. and Ruth Duke Giebeig and the late William and Laura Thomas Norris.

She lived in Lake City for most of her life and had deep family roots in and around Columbia County. She also lived in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in Live Oak, Florida and in a home on the Ichetucknee River. After graduating from Columbia High School in 1973, she attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, earning a degree in English in 1977. Laura Ruth worked for many years as an insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. Most recently, she was actively engaged in real estate as a realtor with the Daniel Crapps Agency.

Laura Ruth was a thoughtful, generous, and loving person with a constant willingness to help others. She was devoted to her husband, family, and many friends. She adored animals – especially her cherished parrot, Smoky Bird, and her dogs, Baby Girl, Rocci, Alli, and Skye. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Lake City, and the Edward Rutledge Chapter of the DAR. In addition to her husband and sister, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Jeff Norris, her many cousins, and her husband’s extended family. She was loved by her large circle of family and friends, and she leaves a lasting legacy in the many lives she touched through her warmth, kindness, and compassion.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at First Methodist Church in Lake City, with Pastor AAron Ankeny and Pastor Lonnie Johns officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
