Mr. Vernon Ellwood Caltrider, Jr., 69, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Balitmore, Maryland on November 25, 1947 to the late Vernon Caltrider, Sr. and Dorothy Spicer Caltrider. He was a Sergeant for the Department of Corrections for many years, and in his spare time, he enjoyed racing, cooking, telling jokes and tricks. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved his dog, KoKo dearly. Vernon was a US Navy veteran, serving his country for six years. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann K. Caltrider.
He is survived by his two daughters, Carol Keller (Wesley) of Lake City and Kelli Caltrider (Kristen) of Lake City; brother; Terry Caltrider (Kathy) of Lake City and sister; Suzanne Howard of Finksburg, Maryland; grandchildren; Matthew Roxby (Alyssa), Candace Roxby, Kyle Keller (Heather), Brooke Keller, Wesley Keller II, and Kaitlyn Keller; great-grandchildren; Dawson, Zachary, Landon, Haleigh, Brennon, Jaidyn and Aiden also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Caltrider will be conducted on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Dustin Busscher officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. (two hours prior to the services) at the funeral home.
