Mr. Terrell D. “Terry” Childs, 79, was called home on Friday, October 14, 2016, from the Lake City V.A. Medical Center. Terry was born in Indianola, Mississippi to the late John Elbert and Hattie Mae [Marshall] Childs and has lived in Columbia County for the past 36 years. He was a loving husband, father and grand & great grandfather who enjoyed fishing when he could and playing Bingo with his “Bingo Family” at the Bingo Station.
Survivors include his caring wife of 47 years, Dortha Childs of Lake City, FL; son, John Terrell of Lake City, FL; daughters, Wendy Coates of Gainesville, FL and Tammie Childs of Lake City, FL; brothers, Joel (Beatrice) Childs of Sierra Vista, AZ and Bill (Lee) Childs of Crystal River, FL; sisters, Janie Gunn of Ocala, FL and Vernell McClain of Summerville, SC; 5 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 am on Thursday, October 20, 2016, in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Bass officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time (10:30 am – 11:30 am). In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors at woundedwarriorsproject.org or to the Disabled American Veterans at dav.org
