December 1, 1943 ~ January 31, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Robbie Carson

Robbie C. Wilson (Smith) Carson, 73, passed away on January 31, 2017 at Lake City Medical Center, Lake City, FL after a brief illness. A memorial service is planned for  2:00pm, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, SR 47, Lake City, FL.

Mrs. Carson was born on December 1, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky to Ruth C. Wilson and Robert E. Wilson.  She considered herself to be a Kentucky girl until she relocated to Lake City, FL in 1971. She graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Kentucky and Master’s degrees in education / nursing from the University of Florida and Florida State University, respectively.

Robbie had a successful career in nursing and, most notably, nurse education as she was employed at Lake City Community College / Florida Gateway College as a nursing instructor and later as program director until her retirement in 2007.  She continued with her passion for labor and delivery nursing as a volunteer with the Pregnancy Care Center in Lake City. She is well known and respected by countless numbers of former students, now nurses in the North Florida area and beyond. Robbie was a patron of the arts as she frequented the Hippodrome Theater in Gainesville and the High Springs Playhouse theatrical productions with friends. She loved to attend area arts and crafts festivals with her “girls”.  Robbie enjoyed traveling, particularly cruising with her husband.  She had an interest in lighthouses, beach vacations, and loved college basketball (especially her Kentucky Wildcats and her Florida Gators).  She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Robbie married Herbert R. Carson on June 8, 2002. Herb notes that until after they were married, he did not realize that love could be as good as it was.  They were often saying they had found their soulmate in one another.  They share seven children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren between them. Robbie is survived by her sons, Steven C. (Jennifer) Smith and Michael R. Smith, and her sisters Elaine (Leelan) Greer and Corrine (Joseph) Mucci, and one special nephew, Curtis Mucci.  Other close family members include her step-daughters Kelly Carson, Cara (Michael) Abbate, and step-sons Kevin “Kit” Carson, Michael “Tim” (Jeannie) Carson, and Sean Carson. Most of all, Robbie enjoyed being “Grannie” to her grandchildren: Hunter, Blayke, and Hayden Smith; Michael (Cristy) Carson II and Monica Carson (Jeff) Reifeiss; Caitlin and Kyle Wollenberg; and, Talia and Cade Abbate. Her great grandchildren are Seth, Sion, and Scarlett Carson; Matthew and Emily Reifeiss; and, Raelynn Wollenberg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org, 800-272-3900), the American Cancer Society (cancer.org, 800-227-2345) or the Pregnancy Care Center of Lake City (www.friendsopcc.com, 386-755-0058). Arrangements are under the direction of GATEWAY-FOREST LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 3596 S US Hwy 441, Lake City, Fl., 32025, (386) 752-1954. Please leave words of love and comfort for the family at wwwgatewayforestlawn.com
