Naomi Mathes Stewart

Naomi Mathes Stewart, age 94, passed away at Baya Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake City, FL on January 23, 2016.

Naomi was born on November 3rd, 1921 to George and Katie Lee Mathes in Piney Flats, TN. She married the love of her life, the late Howard Stewart, in 1946. The couple settled in Miami, FL in the 1953, where they raised their daughter, Deborah. Naomi relocated to Lake City in 2005 to be closer to her family.

Naomi was ahead of the times, by opening and co-owning Miami Shores Pharmacy in 1968. She was a member of numerous civic organizations including the Miami Shores Business and Professional Women's Association, Chamber of Commerce and the Revitalization Board. She was also voted Businesswoman of the Year in Miami Shores.

Naomi was a devoted and loving mother.  She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a “Gramma” to her 2 grandchildren.  Naomi loved holidays and dressing up; any chance to spend time with her family & friends was important to her. Naomi was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor.  She was also an avid reader. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Naomi was the beloved wife of the late Howard Stewart, devoted mother of Deborah Stewart & her husband Jeffrey, loving “Gramma” of Douglas Vas & Casey Vas. Sister to Edna Jones, Joanne Mathes, the late Mildred Stewart & the late Jack Mathes. Aunt to Kathrine, Kristine, Kenneth, Jerry & Richard.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Stewart will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, February 6th, 2016 in the chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Bass officiating.
