Jean Ogden Schmidt passed away after a brief illness on October 13, 2016 in Lake City, FL. She was 84.
Jean was born on August 16, 1932 to William (Reedy) Ogden Sr. and Ruth Pearce Ogden. She was a 1950 graduate of Columbia High School. Jean graduated from the University of Florida with a BA degree in 1954. She retired from the Digital Corporation in Atlanta, GA and worked for the Columbia County Library after returning to Lake City.
After retirement, Jean enjoyed many interests. She was a Master Gardner, a fantastic cook, and avid reader. Jean had a soft heart for pets and was always willing to share her home. She was dedicated and generous aunt to her three nieces and 7 grandnieces and nephews who always looked forward to her sense of humor, pineapple casserole (except Aaron!), and her birthday cards.
Jean is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William R (Billy) and Joyce Ogden; her nieces, Annette Ogden Recavarren (Ed), Anita Ogden Edwards (David), and Amanda Ogden McLean (Matt); her grandnieces and nephews, Grace, Creighton, and Owen Recavarren, Adam and Aaron Edwards, and Heidi and Heather McLean; and cats, Sadie and Rosie. She is preceded in death by her son Daniel Reed Schmidt.
Jean will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with a memorial service in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday October 22 at 11:00 am. All friends and family are welcome to attend. Donations in Jean’s memory should be directed to the Lake City Humane Society.
