Homer Edgar Pennington, 74 of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Edis H. and Nettie Leigh Pennington. Mr. Pennington was a lifelong resident of Lake City and a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1961. He retired after 28 years of service with the Florida National Guard and also from the Florida Department of Corrections with 28 years of service retiring in 2010. Mr. Pennington was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church and he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and riding his tractor. He was preceded in death by his sister, Iris Pennington Bundy, in 2016.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Linda Pennington, Lake City; one son, Michael Lee Pennington (J.J.), Palatka; his daughter, Amy Pennington Geiger (Robby), Lake City; and four grandchildren, Kelsey Stormant, Lake City and Bailee Landry, Cooper Landry and Paislee Pennington all of Palatka.
Funeral services for Mr. Pennington will be conducted on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Zeb Cook, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
