Fred “Augie” Augustin, 85, of Lake City, Florida, passed away, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Lake City VA Hospital.
Augie was born January 21, 1932 in Bronx, New York to Fred and Frieda Augustin. He enlisted in the Army in January 1949 and after Basic Training at Fort Benning he was sent to Korea for a 13-month tour of duty. For his actions in combat he was awarded the Purple Heart. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army in July 1951. On July 12, 1952, he married Patricia M. DeLong. He was an avid saltwater fisherman and a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner with the Bahia Shrine.
Augie is survived by his two sons, Fred Augustin and his wife Stephanie, Eric Augustin of Lake City, two grandchildren, Fred and Joshua Augustin, two greatgrandchildren, his sister Helen Hoyt and her husband Dell, a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frieda and his wife Patricia Augustin in 2000.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Visitation with the family and friends will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the funeral home.
