Erston Lewis Kirby

Mr. Erston Lewis Kirby, 77 of Lake City, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2015 at his home.  He was born in Pinetta, FL to the late Stanley P. Kirby and Edna Gaylard Kirby.  Mr. Kirby retired from the Florida National Guard in Lake City with 30 years of service.  He had numerous endeavors in life including owning and operating his own farm, “Elkhorn Acres”, he was in the land clearing business as well as a co-owner of Equipment Rental of Lake City.  Mr. Kirby loved hunting and the outdoors, fishing in his pond with his grandchildren and spending time in the mountains of Tennessee. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Athens Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dampier Kirby, Lake City; his son, Clifton Michael Kirby (Liza), Cumming, GA; three daughters, Ouida Lynn Barber (Donnie), Steinhatchee, FL, Natasha Spradley (Mike) and Natalie Kirby Park (Bruce) both of Lake City; one brother, Don Kirby, Muldoon, TX; three sisters, Marie Dale, Gainesville, Vivian Williams and Alice Wells both of Lake City; and two brothers in law, Hugh Dampier (Shirley) and Garry Dampier both of Lake City.  Ten grandchildren, Travis, Blake, Jordan, Kasey, Duane, Jonathan, Joshua, Jacob, Isabella and Brandi; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Dampier officiating.  Interment will follow in the Kirby Family Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be Friday evening from 5-7:00 pm at the funeral home.  Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center at 6037 W US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32025.
