Eleanor Owens Estess

Eleanor Owens Estess, 92, of Lake City, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 18, 2016. Born in Palatka, Florida on June 27, 1924, she moved to Lake City with her family when she was a girl. During World War II, she worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee before returning home where she served as the administrative assistant to the Chief Medical Officer at the Lake City VA Center for over 30 years.

Eleanor was a genuine Southern lady who was devoted to her immediate and extended family, going out of her way to make time for her many cousins and relatives. She was a dedicated member of her church and enjoyed volunteering at the Christian Service Center of Columbia County. She also helped manage the family farm where she made her home for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Lydia Wetherington, her parents Charles and Lillie Owens and her brother Emmett Owens. She is survived by her nephews Richard Owens of Tallahassee, FL, Patrick Owens of Miami, FL, M. Lynn Owens of Burlington, VT and a niece, Kara Owens of Los Angeles, CA.

There will be a visitation with the family on Friday, July 22nd at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00pm. A service will be held the following day, Saturday, July 23rd at 10:30am at Bethel United Methodist Church on US Hwy 441.
